I wonder....what if certain lanes on a hwy were paved with recycled metals. Build a few regular cars with electromagents and tires. Drive onto this surface then switch to magnet mode.

No resistance, so all the engine would have to do is run a generator. I wonder if running the generator would be less power demanding than moving the car with tires.

I'd say if the speed limit was much higher, it would use less power.

At first I thought it would use a huge amount of metal. But look at all of the unused train rails stretched all over the country doing nothing.
